Description: View more at MathAndScience.com. In this lesson, you will learn how to calculate the slope of a line and interpret the slope. The slope of a line describes how steep the line is slanted. A flat horizontal line has a slope of zero. A vertical line has an undefined slope (or infinite slope). Lines slanted at an angle have slopes in between zero and infinity. We use the slope formula to calculate the slope and use this information to write down the equation of a line, which we can then graph. The slope formula has us calculate the rise between two points on the line and divide this by the run, or horizontal distance, between the points. By calculating the rise over run, we find the measure of the slope of a line.
